With every new Mustang there is a race to become the first person or company reach each performance milestone with a new platform. It was Ford Performance that set the standards before the 2015 Mustangs were even released, but once the production cars hit the pavement it was AmericanMuscle.com and Bama Performance that claimed the crown for the quickest 2015 Mustang GT.

American Muscle showed off its revamped, 9.49-second 2015 Mustang project at its annual car show at Maple Grove Raceway.

Running a nitrous combo, the American Muscle S550 dipped into the 9-second zone. As they tried to push the combo to quicker times a timing chain sprocket failed and took out the Coyote engine.

American Muscle turned to RGR Racing Engines, where Rich Groh created a fortified Coyote 5.0 featuring more rugged 2011-2014 5.0 timing and valvetrain gear. While adding this gear made the combo stronger, it also meant that the car’s Tricor PCM wouldn’t communicate with the new parts. As such, they swapped it out for one of Ford Performance Racing Parts’ Control Pack PCM based on the more malleable 2011-2014 Copperhead PCM.

“With our new built motor dropped in, our friends at Ford Racing helped us wire it up so the Bama Performance team could work their magic on the dyno. With over 944 horsepower to the rear wheels, we knew that it was going to be a fast pass, even with the factory MT-82 transmission still in place,” said the company. “After we got to the track, we unloaded our 2015 GT and made a quick test pass, shutting it down at the 1,000-foot mark and coasting through the quarter mile. On the first shakedown run, it went 9.49 at 136.62 mph. Not bad!”

See the car run the number right here…

Of course, the car still runs the Bama Performance Whipple supercharger kit but it is limited by the stock transmission. On a full pass with better conditions, it could run even quicker, so stay tuned.
