Ford collaborates with Richard Petty on Mustangs, including a 727hp model

You might recall that Petty’s Garage—a company that puts the stamp of racing legend Richard Petty on performance vehicles—showed off a 2015 Mustang at The SEMA Show last year. They eventually took that blueprint and used it to create a limited run of customized Mustangs. Well, the company is back with three series of 2016 Mustangs—and the support of Ford Motor Company.

“With the new paint on the Premier edition,” Richard Petty said, “that’s how you know we built it. They look pretty sharp.” The other ways you can identify the King Edition Mustangs are by spotting the unique custom rear diffuser, center-mounted exhaust, shift knob, sill plates, floor mats, embroidered head restraints and rear spoiler.
“With the new paint on the Premier edition,” Richard Petty said, “that’s how you know we built it. They look pretty sharp.” The other ways you can identify the King Edition Mustangs are by spotting the unique custom rear diffuser, center-mounted exhaust, shift knob, sill plates, floor mats, embroidered head restraints and rear spoiler.

“I’ve always liked the look of the Mustang, and the 2016 model gives us a great base car to work with,” Richard Petty said. “These new King Edition Mustangs are pretty much the way I’d build my own. They are great fun to drive, and have a signature single exhaust.”

In all the company will build 300 of these special-edition Mustangs: 243 King Editions, 43 King Premier coupes and 14 King Premier convertibles.

These cars roll on HRE/Petty’s Garage wheels (20x9-inch front and 20x10-inch rear) wearing Continental Extreme Performance summer tires. They get extra stopping power courtesy of six-piston front brakes and four-piston rears over two-piece rotors. Suspension upgrades on the King Editions include three-way adjustable front and rear sway bars. If you want even more performance from you King Edition, you can opt for bushings to minimize wheel hop, a coilover racing suspension or even a supercharger upgrade that results in a total of 727 horsepower.

All the King Editions start as Mustang GTs and their base power level is 670 horsepower thanks to a Ford Performance supercharger upgrade. A custom calibration, a cold-air intake system, and a Magnaflow exhaust also bolster the blown 5.0-liter engines. You can even opt for a supercharger upgrade that takes to the King Edition up to 727 horsepower!

With that kind of power on board, you’ll need the Ford Performance TrakPak halfshafts and rear axle upgrade included in the package.

The King Edition Mustangs feature that signature Petty Blue look thanks to a Petty’s Garage/BASF read, white and blue stripes covered in a clearcoat accented by crushed and tumbled glass . The blue body parts get the crushed-glass treatment too. Inside, the cars get a custom, leather-trimmed interior with a dash plate signed by The King himself.

“We’re looking forward to having an even bigger footprint in more locations this year,” Jeff Whaley, chief operating officer, at Petty’s Garage said. “This is such a good opportunity for enthusiasts to own a serialized limited-production Petty Mustang GT.”
