If you’ve been lucky enough to hear the Shelby GT350’s Flat-Plane-Crank 5.2-liter engine revving beyond 8,200 rpm on the racetrack, you know how awesome it sounds. As the engine revs, the Voodoo 5.2 transitions from the rumble of a traditional American V-8 to the wail of a banshee at full chat. Its sound was best described to us as a cross between a stock car and an exotic.

NASCAR Racing is all about high-winding V-8 engines, so it is quite appropriate that the Shelby GT350 will pace two races this weekend. This marks the third year in a row that a Mustang has paced races during the Homestead weekend.
NASCAR racing is all about high-winding V-8 engines, so it is quite appropriate that the Shelby GT350 will pace two races this weekend. This marks the third year in a row that a Mustang has paced races during the Homestead weekend.

That personality makes the GT350 a natural for its latest job as the pace car for the final NASCAR race of the season this weekend in Homestead, Florida.

“The Shelby GT350 Mustang is the most track-capable Mustang ever, making it the perfect pace car for the Ford EcoBoost 400 during Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway,” Ford Executive Vice President and President, the Americas, Joe Hinrichs said. “This is a great chance for the fans at Homestead, and millions more watching around the world, to see the new GT350 in action. Knowing this race will determine NASCAR’s 2015 champion makes it even more special.”

Ford Performance‘s Shelby GT350 will pace both the NASCAR XFINITY Series Ford EcoBoost 300 on Saturday and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Ford EcoBoost 400 on Sunday, while the 2015 F-150 Super Crew will pace Friday’s Ford EcoBoost 200 Truck Series race.

If you can’t make it out to Homestead, you can catch these races on television this weekend.
