Most Ford fans were hoping that Santa left a Ford GT preorder under the tree. You probably weren’t that good this year though. If you won’t be one of the few lucky owners of the Ford GT, you will soon be able to build your own on the kitchen table thanks to a snap-together model from Revell.

Ford will offer a free Revell Ford GT model to kids at the North American International Auto Show next month. A more detailed version of this model will be available for sale in April 2016 for $14.99.

“We’ve always enjoyed building Ford products,” Brian Eble, Revell’s Vice President of Marketing, said. “Ford’s iconic designs make them a great brand to replicate. From first time model builders to master builders; Ford products continue to be one of the most sought after subject matter for scale plastic model kits.”

While the model is for kids and kids at heart, those of us that are just kids on the inside will have to wait until April 2016 to purchase one of these models. Youngsters that are lucky enough to attend the North American International Auto Show next month in Detroit, Michigan, will be able to get a head start building that Ford GT.

That’s right. Kids can stop by the Ford stand at NAIAS and score a free, 14-piece Revell Ford GT model.

“Our annual Revell Make ’n Take model kit program has become a fun-filled auto show tradition,” Mark Bentley, Ford Licensing manager, said. “Letting kids build their own Ford GT is a great way to introduce them to the Ford brand and create new enthusiasts.”

If you can’t make it to the show or you aren’t young enough to score a free model, there is an upside to waiting for the $14.99 retail version. It is far more detailed and features 28 pieces, so you can take more time enjoying the build.
