Regular readers know that we shared the early returns from Kooks Headers and Exhaust’s full exhaust upgrade on Hi-Po Joe Charles’ 2016 Shelby GT350, known as Yellanor. With the simple addition of the company’s full exhaust system and no tuning changes, the Voodoo 5.2-liter engine picked up 24.3 horsepower and 19.82 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. Now the company has released its official video of on the GT350 exhaust, which lets you hear how the system sounds.

At the heart of the Kooks Shelby exhaust system are these 1 3/4- to 1 7/8-inch Step Headers. Rounding out the system is a pair of 3-inch Front Connection Pipes with Green Cats, a 3-inch X-pipe and a Kooks axle-back exhaust.

“We were trying to develop a system that made horsepower and torque while getting rid of the dip in the factory systems power curve, while maintaining the distinct sound that the Shelby has become known for,” Chris Clark Director of Sales and Marketing at Kooks Headers and Exhaust said.

The Complete Competition Green Catted Exhaust System in question (PN 1154F320; $4,199.97) consists of 1 3/4- to 1 7/8-inch Step Headers (PN 11542300; $1,449.99), a pair of 3-inch X-pipe with Green cats (PN 11543300; $1,349.99) and a Kooks axle-back exhaust (PN 11546300; $1,399.99). First the company tested the system with the factory axle-back and mufflers. While moving to the Kooks axle-back was good for nearly 10 horsepower at the wheels, the full system raised the engine’s rear-wheel output from 466.7 horsepower and 390.19 lb-ft of torque to 491.02 horsepower and 410.01 lb-ft of torque.

“We were super excited with the results,” Chris added. “Untuned this car responded incredibly well to the modifications we made.”

You can see the full Kooks system in action on Joe’s car right here…

Of course modern cars like the latest GT350 can make such modifications more complex. The Kooks exhaust doesn’t utilize dual-mode mufflers like the stock system, so the company had to overcome this and other challenges put forth by the Flat-Plane-Crank engine.

Hi-Po Joe Charles‘ new Shelby GT350 baselined at 466.7 horsepower and 390.19 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels and gained 24.3 horsepower and 19.82 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels with the addition of the full Kooks exhaust system.

“Figuring out how to use our complete system with the factory valves intact was not easy. When you disconnect the factory valves you lose the ability to modify the driving modes. We were able to fix that issue,” Chris explained. “Also building a system that would stand up to the tough vibration issues… Luckily we have worked with some top-notch Ford engineers and have resolved that issue as well.”

If you are excited about opening up the exhaust on your new Shelby GT350, Kooks will be shipping these systems soon.
