How to install Ford Performance’s Shelby GT350R-style rear seat delete kit

By Tob

If you have no kids, don’t want to lug anyone around in the seat behind you, want to emulate the R-model or are simply looking for factory-style weight reduction, the latest rear-seat delete kit (PN M-6346612-M; $885) from Ford Performance may just fit the bill. Having added Ford Performance Parts’ Boss Laguna Seca RSD kit to my GT500 I can honestly say I was rather excited when I saw that the R-model would have something similar (sans the tubular X-brace).

The Ford Performance Parts’ 2015-2016 Mustang Rear Seat Delete Installation Kit (PN M-6346612-M; $885) includes the necessary installation instructions and hardware. You’ll need a couple of metric sockets, Torx bits and a drill bit to poke two holes through the existing shelf panel flange.

It would simply be a matter of the powers that be at Ford Performance to put a kit together for public consumption. As with many things, however, it wasn’t that simple.
