Captain Hook

Make us laugh and you just might score a CFM breather

By Steve Turner

When you are out and about at a car show, you just never know what you might find. When you are at a week-long event like Mustang Week, the odds are in you favor that you’ll spot several oddities. This year’s event didn’t disappoint.

Now your author is always drawn to check out the cars of his youth—Fox Mustangs. I spotted this work in progress on the way to my Fiesta ST press car to grab a different lens. At first, I thought “That’s cool. This guy isn’t afraid to bring out his Fox, even it if it is a little rough around the edges.” I can appreciate the time, effort, and cost of building a project car. At the end of the day it is more fun to bring out your car, even if it isn’t finished.

Are you ready to hook us up with a funny caption for this Fox?

Then I rounded the corner. The first thing that registered was the trailer hitch. It’s not at the top of my mod list for a Fox, but I get that a trailer can come in handy to augment the Mustang’s cargo capacity. However, it was what had been installed in the hitch that stopped me in my tracks. “Is that a hook?” I thought. Yep. That’s a hook. Click. Another caption contest in the books.

Now with something a little different like this, I really look forward to reading your creative entries. So dig you hooks into this one and make us laugh. Be sure you are a registered SVTP member and post your funny caption in the comments below by midnight on Thursday August 21.

The Prize

If you have a boosted engine, the odds are you need a crankcase breather, and these units from Central Florida Motorsports not only let that pressure escape, but they do so without creating a vacuum leak.

We’ll pick our favorite funny and let the winner know when the next contest starts. If you do win this week, you will score a pretty special prize from CFM Performance—one of the company’s really cool crankcase breathers.

Not only do these things look sweet on your engine, they also help relieve pressure that builds up in supercharged engines and can lead to blow-by. This can contaminate your oil and cost you horsepower. Moreover, that extra pressure in the crankcase can lead to premature oil leaks. Neither sounds good for your engine.

If you win, you will score one of these trick crankcase breathers from CFM. Not only do they relieve excess crankcase pressure, but they are available in a variety of finishes, so they look great doing it. CFM offers versions for most popular Ford engines.

With the CFM breather, you can let any excess pressure free while retaining the full functionality of the factory positive crankcase ventilation system. They are also equipped with an internal baffle, so the filter doesn’t get soaked with oil, and they don’t create a vacuum leak, which can lead to a lean condition.

Now you have a real incentive to make us laugh, so post up those captions and good luck.
