Want to see the S550 tear up an autocross course?

By Steve Turner

In time the 2015 Mustang will be available for the world to drive. For now, however, we can only take in brief glimpses of the car doing its thing. The latest is a nice video of a skilled driver wheeling a GT around an autocross course…

We have ridden in an Ecoboost between the cones, but this is our first look at 5.0-liter-powered S550 doing work in the tight turns. It’s not just any Mustang GT, either. No. This is a 2015 Mustang GT with the 50th Anniversary Appearance Package and a six-speed manual transmission.

Here are some more subdued runs from various 2015s:

What do you think of the sights and sounds of the new Mustangs zipping around a parking lot?

  1. I wanted to see the 2015 do well. But the video performance was disappointing from my perception. The rear end was not planted. Too much time was lost with the driver trying to get the car under control in an autox course with more straight lines than I usually see at BMW autox courses here in San Diego. The engine is terrific. The suspension is clearly lacking.

  2. Seeing the wheelhop on the launch brings back the terrible memories of the IRS in my cobra. I can only hope the tail happy nature of the rest of the video was driver induced simply for show.

And now we know why it’s private. Really annoyed to read about the wheel hop.
