Early Monday morning Ford dropped the official information about the new additions to the 2016 Mustang product lineup. Among those new offerings were several new package and trim options highlighted by the return of the California Special. Of course, with the 2016 order banks opening up soon, it didn’t take long for the car’s order guide to slip out into the Internet ether. After reviewing the guide, we learned a few more things about the forthcoming Mustang model year options.

Want to order the new California Special? We hope you didn’t want the Performance Pack too. That is one of many options that you have to decide between if you want to order a 2016 Mustang.
The California Special is just one of the available options you’ll to choose between if you want to order a 2016 Mustang.

Of course, we already knew that the California Special, Black Accent Package, and EcoBoost Pony Package had joined the party. Likewise, Ford long ago announced that the Sync 3 infotainment system would be available on the Mustang beginning with the 2016 model year. However, it’s the complete contents of the aforementioned packages, and a few other tidbits not revealed in Ford’s official releases that became clear upon reading the order guide sent to dealers.

For example, we now know the EcoBoost Pony Package is a late-availability option, so you won’t be able to get one right away. The convertible version of this package will not receive the bright work around the quarter windows for obvious reasons. We can also now see that the Performance Pack and Black Accent Package are mutually exclusive, so you’ll have to choose on or the other.

While it will surely be a popular choice, the Black Accent Package is also not available with the Performance Pack. However, given the missions of the two options, this shouldn’t be a tough choice for perspective buyers.
The Black Accent Package is only available on the GT and GT Premium.

Likewise, you cannot order both the Performance Pack and the California Special package on the same vehicle. We knew that the latter package had a unique grille, but the guide spells out that both the upper and lower grilles are unique on the GT/CS.

Along the way, we also learned that Shadow Black has supplanted Black on the roster of paint options, while a new leather option called Yellow Jacket has joined option list for GT Premium with the Premier Trim. And, there’s even an optional Luster Nickel finish available on the Performance Pack wheel, which used to only be available in Henry Ford’s favorite color.

If you want to peruse the complete guide, you can download it right here. Feel free to let us know if you uncover any interesting tidbits when you read it over.

Want to order your Mustang GT convertible with the Performance Pack? Don’t plan on getting it with an automatic transmission, California Special package or the Black Accent Package. It is only available on convertibles or Fastbacks with manual transmissions.
