Late Model Restoration tests its Shelby GT350 on the chassis dyno

When you plan on modding your new Mustang, the first thing you have to do is baseline the car on the chassis dyno so you can see how much power is gained with your mods. Late Model Restoration added a new project car to its stable—a 2016 Shelby GT350—and the company wasted no time in putting the car on the chassis dyno.

Last month we got a peek at the first GT350 and GT350R dyno numbers as one of the mainstream auto publications put pre-production cars on the chassis dyno at K&N Engineering. It was a hot day, but the results showed that the R-model was a bit better than the standard GT350. Now that production Shelbys are arriving in the hands of lucky owners, it’s great to get some results from production vehicles, and the horsepower numbers put down by the LMR GT350 seem consistent with those early reports…

Late Model Restoration put its stock 2016 Shelby GT350 on its in-house Dynojet. Running it Fifth gear with 93-octane fuel in the tank, the Voodoo 5.2-liter engine put down 464 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels.

Where the results from K&N Dynojet were 466.78 horsepower and 373.75 lb-ft of torque, the LMR GT350 put down 464 horsepower and 394 lb-ft. The horsepower is pretty close, but the LMR car put down 21 more lb-ft of torque. It might have liked the cooler November weather in Hewitt, Texas, or LMR got a nice Wednesday build. Either way, it will be interesting to see how this car’s performance grows with mods.
